‘Dessers Must Be Ready To Fight For S’Eagles Shirt,’ Says Former Wolfsburg Forward

Former Wolfsburg Forward, Jonathan Akpoborie has lauded the commitment and determination of Heracles Almelo forward Cyriel Dessers to represent the Super Eagles.

The 25-year-old, who was born in Leuven to a Belgian father and Nigerian mother, obtained his Nigerian passport last week Tuesday and could be invited to the Super Eagles for this month's 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double-header against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone.

Having netted 15 goals in 24 appearances in the Dutch Eredivisie, Akpoborie stated that Dessers' inclusion in the Super Eagles squad would be an added value for the team's manager, Gernot Rohr.

He said Dessers must be prepared to fight for a regular shirt in the Super Eagles.

“I am amazed with the hunger and determination of Cyriel Dessers to don the colours of Nigeria. It shows he's willing to play for the senior national team,” Akpoborie told Goalballlive.com

“I am optimistic that he will be of great value to the Super Eagles if invited for international games or the forthcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone.
