A lot of Nigerian players were at their best in Europe over the weekend.

In Spain, Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade helped Atletico Madrid begin the 2022-23 Primera División Femenina season with a fine 3-1 win at Sevilla.

Ajibade opened the scoring for Atletico in the 34th minute but her strike was cancelled out by Inma Gabarro five minutes into the second half. Ludmila netted a brace in the 56th and 69th minutes to hand them a convincing victory.

Ajibade’s international teammate Tony Payne featured from start to finish for Sevilla.

At the Estadi Johan Cruyff, Asisat Oshoala featured for Barcelona in the 2-0 win over Granadilla Tenerife.

Meanwhile in France, Super Eagles striker Josh Maja scored again in Girondins Bordeaux’s 2-1 defeat of Dijon. Maja grabbed his goal from the penalty spot to make it four goals in four games for the 23-year-old.

Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare returned to the scoring sheet for Amiens SC in their 3-0 win at home over Niort.

Elsewhere, Sochaux moved to the top of the French second division with a 3-1 bashing of Nimes. Super Eagles invitee Valentine Ozornwafor however, was an unused substitute in the match.

In Turkey, Nigerian attackers Jesse Sekidika and Emeka Eze combined to lead Eyüpspor to the 4-1 routing of Bandirmaspor in their 1.Lig clash.

Sunday was a good day for some other Nigerian players.
