Club Rejects Option To Buy, Sends Star Back To Arsenal

Hannover 96 decided against activating Takuma Asano’s option to buy in his one-year loan deal so the forward is set to return to Arsenal this summer.

The Bundesliga club on Sunday announced on their club website that the Arsenal man would be among the group of players leaving this summer.

The relegated German side had a €3m option to purchase Asano at the end of his loan, but they’ve decided not to take it up.

It’s been clear for a while that this would be the case.

The Japanese international only had to make one more appearance for a compulsory purchase clause to be activated, but Hannover intentionally left him out of the team for roughly two months just to avoid that situation.

Asano played a total of 15 games for Hannover, netting once and winning a penalty in 851 minutes on the pitch. Sorry to say, the loan just didn’t go well.

The 24-year-old only has a year left on his contract with the Gunners, so he’s likely to move on now, assuming Arsenal can find a buyer.

The club will most probably not extend his deal, nor are they going to give him a chance in the first team, so leaving is the only real option.

Asano will have to return to Arsenal for the now until his situation is resolved this summer.
