I Won’t Blame My Players For Eagles Loss – Cape Verde Coach

Cape Verde head coach, Pedro ‘Bubista’ says he won't blame any of his players for the team's defeat to the Super Eagles in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria edged the Blue Shark 2-1 on their home soil. Recall that the host took the lead in the 18th minutes before Victor Osimhen leveled parity for the Super Eagles.

An own goal from Cape Verde in the 73rd minute earned the Super Eagles a maximum point and move top of Group C on six points.

Speaking during the press conference, Bubista says he's proud of the team despite losing to one of the best teams in Africa.

“Cape Verde doesn’t have to feel squeamish about losing to Nigeria.

“Nigeria is one of the best teams in Africa. We have to have the guts and humility to know that Nigeria is also an extremely strong team and losing to Nigeria is not a bad thing.

“An own goal is always difficult. It was a shame because it happened at a time when we were taking over the game, we had refreshed the team.

“But it happens. We are not here to blame anyone individually. In our team we always win together and lose together,” Bubista said at the post-match press conference.
