Super Eagles players Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi were selected as the two best performers after the game against Liberia at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos.
Not a total dominance, but Nigeria did enough to kick start their 2022 World Cup qualifiers with a 2-0 win against Liberia on Friday, September 3, 2021.
Iheanacho netted the double that helped Nigeria to the win while Iwobi had a hand in both goals.
The ‘senior man’ scored in the 23rd and 45th minute to give the Super Eagles a two-goal cushion.
To reward their efforts, Iheanacho and Iwobi were named Man of the Match and Most Valuable Player of the Match, respectively, and were rewarded with ₦1m cash gifts each for their roles.
Two Super Eagles major sponsors each funded the awards and presented a dummy cheque of the cash prize to the players at full time.
Delighted Iwobi went on social media and posted: “Honoured To Win “Most Valuable Player” Of The Game.”
