PSL side Orlando Pirates fell to a 1-0 defeat to Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy in the first leg of their CAF Champions League Second Preliminary Round tie played at Botswana National Stadium in Gaborone on Sunday afternoon.

In this article, we'll take a look at the individual performances of some players on both sides.

Top Performers in Jwaneng Galaxy vs Orlando Pirates Clash

It was a very tight game and a number of players on either side made it to our list of top performers.

Daniel Msendami – 8

Daniel was torn in the flesh of Orlando Pirates all afternoon. The right winger was at the right place at the right time to get the game’s only goal. Aside from that, he created the first chance of the game for Omaatla Kebatho who fired wide of the post when he should have at least hit the target. Great performance.

Kitso Mangolo – 8

Kitso had a phenomenal game. The defender kept coming forward during the game and one of his fine deliveries found Msendami for the game’s only goal. He was denied a goal of his own by the offside flag just at the hour mark. Simply put, he was explosive and solid in his position.

Ryan Brown – 7

The goalkeeper is the next name on this list. Brown was assured between the sticks for most parts of the game. He was called into action a few times and did well to make excellent stops and help his side maintain their lead. In the second half, his organization at the back limited Orlando Pirates to just a few goalscoring attempts.

Kabelo Dlamini – 6

The attacking midfielder was Orlando Pirates’ best player in the game. He played the entire duration of the game as the South African giants pursued the game from midway through the first half. He had two attempts late on but the Galaxy goalkeeper did well to deny him.

Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo – 6

Ndlondlo worked his socks off in midfield for Orlando Pirates. Alongside Dlamini, he tried to spur his side up and get a result from the game, but the home side held on for a precious win ahead of the second leg next weekend.

Lowest Player Ratings in Jwaneng Galaxy vs Orlando Pirates Clash

It was a cagey game and some players did not deliver as expected. Most especially, Orlando Pirates had some players who could not make good use of the opportunity given to them by Jose Riveiro.

Souaibou Marou – 5

The striker failed to take advantage of the absence of Zakhele Lepasa, missing some chances to get a goal. He was set up by Deon Hotto but missed the mark from range. Moments earlier he connected with a cross from Innocent Maela but he could not direct his attempt on goal. He was subsequently subbed off just before the hour mark.

Thabiso Monyane – 4

The full-back was quite shaky at the back as they lost by just a single goal to the side from Botswana. It was not surprising that he was taken off just before the hour mark by the Riveiro.
