Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has been a long-term target of bosses at Old Trafford as the player continues to impress in Italy.

However, Carlo Ancelotti has now confirmed that the Senegal international continues will remain in Naples beyond this summer, forcing the 47-year-old to look elsewhere.

Ancelotti told Radio Rai: “Koulibaly will remain in Naples in the next season.”

The Norwegian seemed to confirm his side’s defensive weakness in comments after the Bayern Munich fixture, which could be seen as a dig at Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

When asked who impressed him during the fixture, Solskjaer said: “Well… Scholsey [Paul Scholes].

“Jaap [Stam] and Ronny [Johnsen] – we could do with them two at the back.

“They were fantastic the whole season, the ’99 season, those two were unbelievable.”

The fixture was organised to raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation and Solskjaer praised idea after the home side ran out 5-0 winners.
