The Kenya Premier League fixtures for the 2023/24 season are out. The first round of matches is scheduled for 26 August 2023.

The Football Kenya Federation announced the kick-off dates for several matches covering August and September, even as KPL coaches are set to pursue refresher courses ahead of the new season.

Last season, giants Gor Mahia finished top of the standings last season with 70 points to bag their 20th crown in the Kenyan league.

However, the glory didn't materialize in a continental campaign. CAF denied Gor Mahia a chance to participate in the CAF Champions League, a prestigious continental competition.

Gor Mahia had failed to pay former foreign players their dues, necessitating stern action from CAF  to issue a 30-day ultimatum. However, Gor still was unable to honour the deadline for clearing outstanding dues.

And even though Gor Mahia later paid three players who had taken them to FIFA for breaching a contractual agreement, the pay came 19 days after the CAF deadline.

The CAF Champions League kicks off on 18th August 2023.

Champions Gor Mahia kick-off 2023/24 campaign against Sofapaka in new Kenya Premier League fixtures

The new season comes with renewed hope for Gor Mahia as they look to win another FKF Premier League title. The KPL giants hope for a return to the CAF Champions League at the end of the 2023/24 season.

No doubt they are the favourites to lift the crown yet again but a kick-off against Sofapa isn't going to be easy for the Kenya Premier League giants.

Previous Kenya Premier League fixtures between Gor Mahia and Sofapa did not end favourably for the returning champions, noting that the last two encounters ended in barren draws.

Moreover, the last three meetings ended square, with a scoreline of 1-1 registered in the run. Gor won two of the previous five duels with Sofapaka, each with a similar scoreline of 1-0.

Wazito returns to Kenya Premier League after heightened playoffs

Wazito FC earned their return to the Kenya Premier League after winning playoffs against Migori Youth. They will join Shabana FC which earned a direct promotion to the top flight last season.

Wazito drew 0-0 away from home but were stronger in the return leg which ended 3-0 in their favour.

Wazito FC will play their opening game away from home against Nairobi City Stars in the 2023/24 Kenya Premier League fixtures.

Murang'a Seal FC is another team that earned direct promotion to the FKF Kenya Premier League as they finished 2nd in the National Super League last season, 4 points behind Shabana FC.

Turker FC which finished second last season will also play their round 1 game on the same day as Gor Mahia.

Tusker will travel to the coastal town of Mombasa to play against Bandari FC in the opening clash, hoping to outdo Gor in the race to the title in the 2023/24 season.

Tusker won the 2021/22 Kenya Premier League title with 65 points, 5 points short of the 70 that Gor Mahia bagged in the 2022/23 KPL season.
