George Weah has rewarded each Super Eagles player with a cash gift of $2,000 for honoring his invitation for a friendly match to retire his Liberia No 14 jersey.
The Liberian President was delighted that Nigeria paraded a strong side including several last players from the recent Russia 2018 World Cup Squad.
“We were paid $2,000 each by the President of Liberia,” one of the players told journalists after they were rewarded with the gift.
The 51-year-old, now many kilograms overweight and far from being match fit, played for 79 minutes in the 2-1 defeat in the friendly game against the Super Eagles.
In his playing days, the 1995 World Footballer of the Year featured for some of Europe’s best teams including PSG, Monaco, AC Milan, and Chelsea.
