The Mamelodi Sundowns have been unstoppable in the Premier Soccer League this season. They have a perfect eight wins from eight so far, conceding just three times.
It may interest you to know that the last time Masandawana lost in the PSL was in September last year. At the time of writing, Rhulani Mokwena‘s side have no losses in their last 32 league games. Bearing that in mind, let's talk about the longest unbeaten runs in the history of South Africa's top flight.

Mamelodi Sundowns 32 games*
We've already established that the Sundowns haven't lost in the PSL for over a year. This is currently the longest unbeaten run in the history of the Premier Soccer League.
It's important to point out that Masandawana didn't just scrape through those matches; they dominated most of their opponents, winning 25 of 32 matches, with seven draws. At the time of publishing, Mamelodi Sundowns' unbeaten run is still active.
Kaizer Chiefs – 31 games
Kaizer Chiefs had the record for longest unbeaten run in the PSL for about 18 years. They had an impressive 31 match unbeaten run between January and November 2005; and 19 of those matches in the 2004/05 campaign where they won the title.
Amakhosi were able to rely on their solid defense, keeping 17 clean sheets in those 31 matches. However, they drew more matches (16) than they won (15) in that 31 game stretch.
Mamelodi Sundowns – 28 games
While Mamelodi Sundowns successfully broke Kaizer Chiefs' record in 2023, this wasn't their first run at that record. Masandawana had no losses in the PSL from January 2018 to January 2019, racking up a 28 match unbeaten run. Interestingly, the Sundowns won 16 of those 28 matches, with 12 draws.
Mamelodi Sundowns – 25 games
Masandawana have proven to be one of the best teams in Africa these past few years; and because of this, it's no surprise that they have three of the four longest unbeaten runs in the Premier Soccer League.
As a matter of fact, the Sundowns have won five consecutive PSL titles; they also have the record for longest unbeaten run away from home. Between September 2020 and December 2021, Masandawana lost just once in 49 league matches. This includes a 25 match unbeaten run, as well as a 23 match unbeaten run.
Kaizer Chiefs – 24 games
We've pointed out that Mamelodi Sundowns have won eight consecutive matches to start their season. This is the joint best ever start in the PSL, alongside Kaizer Chiefs' 2014/15 title winning campaign. Amakhosi were unbeaten in 24 matches between April 2014 and February 2015.
