Man Utd Place Six Players On Chopping Block After Sevilla Loss

Manchester United are set to boost their spending power this summer by putting six players up for sale as they look to fund a move for Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side endured a frustrating end to the prolonged 2019/20 season as they lost 2-1 against Sevilla in the semi-final of the Europa League in Germany on Sunday night.

United legend Paul Scholes claimed afterwards that United would not have lost had top target Sancho been in the side, though Borussia Dortmund are still holding out for £108million and a big up-front fee.

With United’s finances affected by the coronavirus crisis, The Evening Standard report they will need to sell some fringe players to bolster their transfer kitty – especially with Solskjaer wanting to bring in other players beyond Sancho.

Although the United boss had intimated that Chris Smalling could come back into the first-team fold next season, he is likely to be the first of six players the Red Devils will try to cash in on.

United will also look to offload Marcos Rojo, Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard, Diogo Dalot and Phil Jones.

Speaking about his desire for new signings after the Sevilla defeat, Solskjaer said: ‘’I cannot say when or if transfers will be done, but we are looking at it. We have to be 100 percent sure when we make those deals. It’s not about a marquee signing, it’s about quality. The right personality that fits into the group.’’
