Historically, Nigeria is known to be a country that produces high level talents that are capable of playing at the highest level of the sport. In this article, we look at some of the highest paid Nigerian players in 2023 and how they acquired their wealth.

Their performances for their club and their contribution to the team’s success increases the value they bring to the team and they are rewarded with handsome wages. 

These players also feature for the Nigeria national football team because of their ability and give their all for the Super Eagles shirt. We take a look at the top four in 2023.

Odion Ighalo, Al Hilal – $170,000 (N78.2 million)

Number one on this list is Al Hilal and former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo. To the supporters of the Nigerian Super Eagles, Ighalo is seen as a national hero and one of the greatest Nigerian strikers of the modern era. 

He scored 16 goals in 37 appearances for the Nigeria National football team and was the highest goal scorer at the 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations. 

This season for Al Hilal, he has scored 18 goals in 22 appearances in the Saudi Pro League. His impressive numbers show that he is paying his hefty wages back in full.

Victor Osimhen, Napoli – $110,000 (N50.6 million)

Second on this list is Napoli’s star striker and arguably one of the best players in world football today, Victor Osimhen.

The 24-year-old has ensured a smooth transition from Odion Ighalo to himself on the Super Eagles team with brilliant performances and goals.

With 15 goals in 22 appearances for the Nigeria National football team, he is already a goal behind Ighalo and may even become the greatest striker ever.

For Napoli, Osimhen is having a season worth its weight in gold. He has scored 26 goals in 33 games for his club and has led them to their best season in decades.

His goals have now led Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years.

Osimhen’s name will be the number one headline on Super Eagles news everywhere as the biggest clubs across Europe are fighting for his signature and a move will mean more money for Osimhen.

Nigeria will also be reliant on him as he will be crucial to their push for AFCON 2023.

Wilfred Ndidi, Leicester City – $100,000 (N50 million)

Leicester City’s holding midfielder is the third highest paid player on this list. The 26-year-old has been a rock in midfield for his club and the Super Eagles with his robust tackling ability and elite defensive awareness. 

He has been a vital part of his club’s success in previous seasons and has an FA Cup winners medal to show for it.

This season, however, has not been a great one for the midfielder, as his performance levels have dropped and his club is battling for survival in the Premier League.

If he rediscovers his form, he will once again be seen as one of the top defensive midfielders in Africa as well as Europe.

Kelechi Iheanacho, Leicester City – $80,000 (N36.8 million)

Ndidi’s Leicester City and Super Eagles teammate rounds up this list. The talented attacking midfielder has been one of the more prominent players in the Leicester City team fighting for Premier League survival.

With five goals and four assists in 26 League appearances, the 26-year-old has shown his talents this year for his team and will need to provide more goal contributions to help his team’s survival bid.
