Newcastle boss Steve Bruce is fighting to keep his job in the wake of the club's shambolic 3-0 Premier League defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
Here are four managers who could take over should Mike Ashley be forced to relieve the 60-year-old of his job.
Graeme Jones
If Bruce goes, he could be the perfect person to take over on an interim basis. He’s previously worked at Luton Town and may be deemed as the ideal fit to take temporary charge while Ashley can eye a long-term upgrade.
Chris Wilder
Recently axed by Sheffield United, despite steering them back into the Premier League and helping them enjoy a terrific campaign last term, he showed what he can do on a limited budget. And with Ashley notorious for being shrewd when it comes to significant outlays, that factor could work in his favour.
Rafa Benitez
The Spaniard was an immensely popular character on Tyneside throughout his time at St James’ Park, doing well with the club both on and off the pitch. He recently left the Chinese Super League behind and is, therefore, available.
Eddie Howe
If Newcastle got Howe, they’d bring attacking and exciting football to St James’ Park. Yet they may have to act quick, with Celtic also being linked at the current moment in time.
