The latest Victor Osimhen news concerns the player’s performance at AFCON 2023, with many suggesting that he has delivered a below-par form at the tournament.

The Napoli forward, who has been in and out of the news for various reasons, has continued to draw flak from fans and naysayers, who believe he can deliver more at AFCON 2023.

The Super Eagles came into AFCON 2023 with several strikers with high reputations but have struggled to score goals at the tournament despite qualifying for the knockout rounds.

The Jose Peseiro-led side has scored just three goals at AFCON 2023, with only one coming from open play. The other two goals came from a penalty and an own goal.

In the latest Osimhen news, the question asked is what would it take to get the Super Eagles striker firing again.

Osimhen has scored only one goal at AFCON 2023 – against Equatorial Guinea in their opening game, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The situation has raised concerns amongst the Super Eagles fans, who are worried about how the team would fare against arch-rivals Cameroon.

Osimhen also recently took a potshot at fans who were dissatisfied with the team's performance.

The African Footballer of the Year was asked if he was under pressure to deliver, but he denied any such thing, claiming he remained calm and that the goals would come.

“There is no pressure at all. I really don’t care about this title. The most important thing is to make sure the team does well and wins the tournament,” Osimhen said.

Osimhen also said the team was a tight group focused on a common objective – winning AFCON 2023.

“My performance does not worry me. I can be on the bench and the other players are getting the job done, it doesn’t matter. What matters is to win. I’m trying to win with this group. I just want to help the team,” Osimhen concluded.

The latest Osimhen News comes after the striker had revealed that he had made up his mind about his future and would be made clear to everyone in the summer.

Osimhen has scored only one goal at AFCON 2023, with a vital tie against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Saturday, Peseiro would need his star man to be at his imperial best.

The former Lille striker has been criticised in this tournament for missing several big chances and the penchant for being caught in an offside position.

He missed three big chances against the Nzalang Nacional, with fans claiming the Super Eagles should have beaten the less fancied side.

Against Ivory Coast, the Napoli striker also missed one big chance and did the same against Guinea-Bissau. The poor finishing by Osimhen in 1v1 situations is worrisome for fans, who expect him to step up his game.

While hoping Osimhen would recover his scoring boots against Cameroon, the Super Eagles coach, Peseiro, will go into the tie knowing that Nigeria has never lost an AFCON knockout game against the Indomitable Lions.
