Scottish giants, Glasgow Rangers have shown interest in signing Super Eagles striker, Cyreil Dessers in the summer transfer window.

The Cremonese man has had an underwhelming first year at the Serie A side and was part of a team that finished 19th in the league and suffered relegation as a result. The Super Eagles striker may now be back on the move following his team’s relegation and the Scottish side may be one or many suitors after his signature this window.

He initially started the season with Belgian side, Genk before making the move to join the newly promoted Serie A outfit for an undisclosed fee in the summer where he signed a contract until June 2027.

In his debut season, Dessers started 19 of the 26 games he played in the League but struggled for fitness as he missed 13 games that season due to injuries at different points during the season.

He managed to score six goals and get one assist in Serie A. He also made three appearances in the Copa Italia and scored one goal. Prior to his transfer from Genk, he played three games and scored three goals in the Juplier Pro League this season.

His season may have not been the best but he has shown enough quality for one of Scotland’s two biggest sides to be interested in his services.

Rangers Need Firepower, Identify Dessers As Option

The Scottish side finished second in the Scottish Premiership last campaign and were seven points behind eventual Champions Celtic. They ended the season with 99 goals scored compared to Celtic’s 114 goals. Both teams conceded under 40 goals last season and had equally solid defences but the lack of firepower for Rangers cost them the title ultimately.

With Cyriel Dessers added to their attack, The Gers believe that they will be able to close that gap in offensive power with his signing.

Rangers will be losing Key attackers like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos this summer due to the expiry of their contract and Dessers will be seen as a replacement for the latter, who has been one of their most consistent attackers in the last few seasons.

With the superior talent level that Glasgow Rangers possess over the relegated Cremonese, moving to Scotland might help get the best out of him like the other attacking players in the team under Micheal Beale.

Prior to this season, the 28-year-old striker showed his class for Dutch side Feyenoord as he scored 20 goals in 41 appearances. 10 of those goals came in 13 UEFA Europa Conference League games as he led the Dutch side to the final of that competition as well as third position in the Eredivisie.

Although it has not been a good season for Dessers, he is still a regular feature in the Super Eagles squad Dessers made his international debut in 2020 and has only won four caps since, scoring on one occasion.

Whether he decides to move to Scotland or another team, he will have one eye on making the Nigeria National football team squad for AFCON 2023 which starts next year. His form between now and then will be crucial as he plays in a very competitive position.
