Following the stunning assessment by John Fashanu that the Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has underachieved with the current squad in his disposal, former Nigerian goalkeeper, Peter Rufai has questioned the yardstick behind his judgment.
Rufai, popularly known as ‘Dodomayana’during his playing days, stated that the German tactician has improved the playing style and unearth new players that have added more depth to the Super Eagles.
The former Deportivo La Coruña goalkeeper told Soccernet.ng in a chat that Rohr shouldn’t be blamed for not including more of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) players in the senior national team.
“My brother, I see no reason why Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr should be blamed for limiting the number of of the home-based players that are invited to the senior national team,” Rufai said.
“Besides, it is unfair from John Fashanu to have said Rohr has underachieved as the coach of Super Eagles.
“I am sure that if he has not done well, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under the leadership of Amaju Pinnick would have sacked him before now.
“Rohr has brought stability, development and winning mentality into the team as witnessed in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers the team has played so far.

“Again, the international friendly games against Ukraine and Brazil which ended in a draw, also explain the progress the team has made under him. So why questioned his achievements.”
