Real Madrid have tabled an astronomical offer of £137million for Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe.
The 22-year-old Frenchman was given the No29 shirt when he arrived into the French capital, the same number he used to wear when he was still a precocious young talent with Monaco.
If he was to join the 13-time European Champions this season, he would have the first refusal on any Madrid shirt number above the No24.
Many players are sentimental as to the shirt numbers they occupy, and the No29 shirt has been the number Mbappe has donned in every club he has played for.
Or he could potentially follow Lionel Messi's lead and choose the first-ever squad number as a senior player.
In Mbappe's case, his debut squad number in the Monaco senior team was the No39 shirt.
However, if Real Madrid's offer is rejected, or the World Cup winner chooses to depart PSG when his contract expires next summer, the Frenchman could potentially take the No10 shirt from Luka Modric.
The Croatian maestro's contract expires at the same time as Mbappe.
And if the 2018 World Cup finalist does not extend, then he will leave the Bernabeu as a free agent.
Los Blancos always like to give their iconic numbers to their biggest signings.
