Solskjaer’s United Loss to Young Boys in UCL Opener After Late Strike

Manchester United were stunned by a  2-1 stoppage-time defeat away to Young Boys after a calamitous pass from Jesse Lingard gifted Theoson Siebatcheu a one-on-one situation to complete a fantastic comeback for David Wagner's men.

Ronaldo might've equalled Casillas' all-time appearance in the history of the competition, but the celebration was overshadowed by a resolute Young Boys side who handed United their first loss of the 2021/2022 season.

Manchester United had an assertive start to the game at the Wankdorf Stadium in Switzerland and Ronaldo fired the ‘Red Devils into the lead inside the opening 15 minutes on his second debut for United in the Champions League.

Bruno Fernandes picked up the ball on the left flank and his sweet pass with the outside of his foot allowed Ronaldo to fire home from close range and put the visitors ahead just after 13 minutes.

Ronaldo's goal put United ahead very early in the game but after The Red Devils were reduced to ten men following a poor touch that contributed to him going over the ball and heavily onto Young Boys' Christopher Martins, Referee Francois Letexier was quick to show the English international a red card.

David Wagner's men completely took control of the match after the red card as they pressed for an eqaulizer. Meanwhile, United's defense remained resilient, forcing Young Boys to resort to long balls.

However, Manchester United's resistance was broken midway through the second half when a fierce delivery allowed Moumi Ngamaleu to stick a toe out, and prod the ball past a helpless de Gea to bring the hosts level.

The latter stages saw record-equalling Ronaldo substituted as the Old Trafford side fought for a point, with Young Boys piling on the pressure.

The consistent pressure paid off in the dying stages as a howler from Jesse Lingard allowed Theoson Siebatcheu to run through and tuck home comfortably giving Young Boys only their second ever win against English opposition.
