The Super Eagles of Nigeria clashed with Lesotho on Thursday evening in their opening 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying game.
Jose Peseiro's side had to come from behind to salvage a point, after Motlomelo Mkwanazi opened the scoring for the visitors.
Nigerians react to Super Eagles' embarrassing draw at home to Lesotho
It's important to point out that Peseiro's men were on a five-match unbeaten run ahead of this match; and on that note, they were the overwhelming favourites to win.
However, the Super Eagles got more than they bargained for, as they struggled to beat a Lesotho side that had lost eight of their previous 11 matches.
Star-studded attack disappoints again
X user Northerner0 voiced his disappointment with the team's lack of goals, despite their star-studded squad.
We get players like Boniface, Iheanacho, Lookman and Awoniyi for attack, but the Super Eagles still dey find am hard against Lesotho.#NGALES

Peseiro and the NFF out
A few Nigerians called for Peseiro's head, alongside NFF boss Ibrahim Gusau. It's worth mentioning that Gusau was elected NFF president in September last year. Here's a tweet from ChiHerbert9:
Even Spain and Argentina no get the quality and dept of Nigerian Super Eagles but look how Eagles de disgrace themselves in every matchā¦

Are the Super Eagles developing a bad habit?
We've already established that Nigeria are currently on a five-match unbeaten run. It may interest you to know that they conceded first in their last two games.
As a matter of fact, Peseiro's side conceded the first goal in six of their last 10 matches in all competitions. Segetinii didn't hesitate to point that out.
Super Eagles players will concede first then start chasing the game. Bad boys have told their friends they will concede first, put all your money! š¤£š¤£š¤£

The Super Eagles are cursed
Due to their abysmal performance on Thursday, Another X user, Enangetifit suggested the team might be cursed.
I truly pity the guys playing for the Super Eagles now because they will lose the game, not because they can't play well but just for the fact that Nigeria is under a curse at the moment. Nothing is working at all.

Super Eagles in danger of missing another World Cup?
We would like to point out that Nigeria missed out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup, after they lost to Ghana in the playoff round.
Although world cup qualification is relatively easier this time, there are a few concerns that the Super Eagles may not make it through to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
So the Super Eagles, having these set of players on the pitch couldn't whitewash ordinary Lesotho at home.
Peseiro should just leave in peace. We might still miss out on another WC if things do not change. pic.twitter.com/FLEiiLTQzS— Dozie (@ManUTDblood) November 16, 2023
