A Super Eagles player has been named amongst the 100 most influential Africans in 2023. This list was released by New African magazine on Tuesday 2nd January, and it features many Africans from various fields.
These individuals made the list based on their achievements and contributions throughout the year, as well as the impact they made on the African continent and the World at large.
“The list features a diverse and inspiring group of men and women, who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, leadership, resilience, and vision in their respective domains. They include politicians, entrepreneurs, industrialists, environmentalists, creatives, scientists, educators, sports personalities, and more.” The magazine states.
“The list also reflects the shifting trends and priorities in Africa, as the continent faces new challenges and opportunities in the post-pandemic era,” according to a statement by the publishers. Of all the categories involved, creatives dominate the ranking with 31 representatives.

Interestingly, Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen was named on this list, alongside Nigeria's president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Aliko Dangote and Burna Boy. The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and President of the African Development Bank, Akinwunmi Adesina were also named on the list that was dominated by Nigerians.
In 2023, the Napoli striker earned the African footballer of the year award, due to his spectacular performances for club and country. Osimhen was the top scorer in the Serie A last season; as his 26 goals helped the Partenopei clinch their first Scudetto in 33 years.
The 25 year old is currently preparing for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which kicks off later this month. He has joined the Super Eagles at their training camp in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
