Former Chelsea player Craig Burley has warned the midfielder that he’ll find it difficult to force Jordan Henderson or Georginio Wijnaldum out of the side.
Liverpool are set to announce the arrival of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich later today.
But the 29-year-old has been warned that he can’t expect to walk straight into Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.
The Reds have been deliberating over whether to meet Bayern Munich’s £27million valuation of the midfielder, but have finally decided to pull the trigger on a bid after agreeing to pay £20m with £5m in add-ons.
Speaking to ESPN FC, former Chelsea player Craig Burley believes Alcantara will find it difficult to force Jordan Henderson or Georginio Wijnaldum out of the side.
He said: “I’m sure he’s going to play, but I don’t think it’ll be as simple as him coming in and waltzing into this Liverpool team.
“It’s not just a case of chucking a Jordan Henderson or Georginio Wijnaldum out of the side.
“He’s going to have to fight for his place.

“I think that’s part of the reason why Jurgen Klopp brought him in, it’s going to make some of the other players in the dressing room sit up.’’
