Bruno Fernandes has been superb since his arrival in January while Harry Maguire has struggled so far this season.
Fernandes lined up for Portugal last night in a 0-0 draw with France but supporters took the opportunity to voice their opinion.
Maguire has made a series of mistakes in the opening matches of the campaign.
That has led to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side losing to Crystal Palace and Tottenham in two of their three opening Premier League fixtures.
United fans have been clear on social media as to who they want to see with the armband going forwards.
One tweeted: “Bruno Fernandes for Captain.”
Another added: “Love that Fernandes has put in a couple hard challenges on Pogba. Captain material, that Bruno.”
A third exclaimed: “Maguire should not be the captain of Manchester united for various reasons.
“Bruno Fernandes fits the bill. He is a cut above the rest.”

One more said: “O yes, give him (Bruno Fernandes) the captain arm band to lead and make us utd Fan's happy again, meanwhile get rid of the flops Maguire, Lindelof and Pogba the don't deserve it's jersey…”
