Rhulani Mokwena's side will face TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup opening round of 16 on Wednesday without any of their seven key players currently in the Bafana Bafana camp, to add to the long list of absentees already in the squad.

Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams; defenders Mothobi Mvala, Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba and Khuliso Mudau; midfielder Teboho Mokoena, and captain Themba Zwane.

The Sundowns players are among coach Hugo Broos' squad that played a goalless draw with Eswatini on Friday night at FNB Stadium, they'll clash with Ivory Coast in Abidjan on Tuesday.

Reports from SABC SPORT said the seven Sundowns players with the national team will travel straight to Angola on Wednesday to meet their club mates in the build-up to the first leg of their encounter with Petro on Saturday.

The Brazilians got permission from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to participate in the African Football League (AFL), which gets underway this weekend with an away fixture against Petro de Luanda of Angola.

TS Galaxy agreed to move their cup tie to an earlier date to allow Downs a few days to recover and prepare for the continental assignment.

While Galaxy have their squad in full strength, Masandawana are depleted. It's going to be fascinating to see how the game pans out.
