Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq has suffered an injury in his right knee, according to a statement from his club.
A statement on the club’s official website read, “He suffered a torsion in his right knee during the Getafe-RS match, held yesterday, 09-11-2022.
“The MRI done this morning shows a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament. It is a subsidiary lesion of surgical treatment. In the next few days, it will be reported.”
The Super Eagles star walked off the pitch on his own after landing awkwardly as a result of a dribble by an opponent in the game against Getafe.
Initial reports suggested it was a minor injury but Monday morning scans show that the striker would need surgery.
According to reports as well, he is expected to miss the remainder of the season but the outcome of the surgery could give the specific amount of time he's expected to be out for.
Sadiq joined Sociedad as Alexander Isak's replacement in a big money move from Almeria in August.
Mutiu Adepoju backs Sadiq to bounce back
Super Eagles legend Mutiu Adepoju has offered his support to Sadiq Umar, following his unfortunate injury while playing for Real Sociedad at the weekend.
Adepoju, who spent four years at Real Sociedad, told Punch Sports” It’s a setback for him, just like every other injury. A player who arrived at Sociedad with so much energy to score goals finds himself injured and ruled out for six to nine months; this could have a psychological impact on him.
“But, it’s also not the end of his career, I expect him to return much earlier and start scoring goals. I will advise him to remain calm and follow up his recovery process diligently as instructed by his doctor.”
The 25-year-old, has now joined the likes of Jamilu Collins, Victor Osimhen, Kenneth Omeruo and Akinkunmi Amoo, who are all set to miss Nigeria’s friendly against Algeria on September 27.
