Villarreal Won't Rush Chukwueze Back From Injury - Emery

Ahead of today’s Champions League clash against Atalanta, Villarreal boss Unai Emery has revealed that the club has no intention of rushing Super Eagles star, Samuel Chukwueze back to the team.

The Nigerian international has been out of action since picking an injury during the Yellow Submarine’s Europa League semi-final clash against Arsenal which ended 0-0 at the Emirates Stadium on May 6.

He underwent successful surgery on May 31 at Hospital Quironsalud in Barcelona but despite reports indicating he had resumed training with the team, Emery has provided an update that has ruled him out of the team’s opening match in the Champions League against Atalanta BC.

“He’s (Chukwueze) going a little bit slower than we wanted to and we still want to go cautiously with him.”

“We’ve got some footballers back, who hadn’t had pre-season because of COVID-19 or because of injury,” said Emery.

“The team is ready to be able to prepare the games and try and be at their best in every moment. I see really keen people, people ready to perform.”
