Jwaneng Galaxy met Vipers SC in the first preliminary round. In the first leg of the tie, Jwaneng defeated Vipers SC 2-0 and thereafter lost 2-1 away in their visit to Uganda, to qualify 3-2 on aggregate.
On the other hand, Orlando Pirates squared off with Djabal in the first preliminary round. The Bucs won 0-1 away in Comoros and later thrashed Djabal 3-0 in the return leg with Zakhele Lepasa heavily involved.
