Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, will host Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday, 10 September. Kick-off time is 17:00 BST.
The match is the final game of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers for the two teams and it will be played at the magnificent Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
There is basically nothing to play for as the Super Eagles have already picked one of the AFCON tickets in Group A alongside Guinea-Bissau, while Sao Tome & Principe, who are the whipping boys of the group, have been eliminated with Sierra Leone.
Although there is still a fight for the top spot position between the Super Eagles and Guinea-Bissau, Jose Peseiro’s side could seal it with just a draw against their lowly-rated opponents.

The Super Eagles suffered a shock 1-0 home loss to Guinea-Bissau last time out in Abuja and will need a much-improved performance to beat Sao Tome & Principe – a side they walloped 10-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the qualifying series.
Despite the state of the match, Jose Peseiro, who has signed a new deal to continue as the head coach of the side, has opted to call his usual suspects for this game in order to use it as a preparatory game ahead of the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire next January.
Well, it is the first time the Super Eagles will be returning to Uyo since 2018 and the fans will be happy to receive them.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has bought all the tickets for the 30,000-capacity stadium and this was made known in an official announcement through the State Governor’s X account. So, it is a free entry to all the fans.
However, the stadium gates will be locked as soon as the arena is filled to capacity as fans have been advised to arrive early.
