Former Dutch international Rene van der Gijp have urged Liverpool to sign Ajax Amsterdam's Matthijs De Ligt as a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds signed the 27-year-old van Dijk from Southampton in January last year for £75million and Jurgen Klopp's side has seen a definite increase in defensive prowess since his arrival.

With Joe Gomez struggling with injury after another surgery, there are suggestions being made that a new first-choice central defender is needed and De Ligt is top of everyone's list.
“It would be great for Dutch football if those two defenders can play alongside each other for five to six years,” he told Voetbal Primeur.
“Then you are getting the best centre-back pairing in Europe.”

A central defensive partnership featuring both van Dijk and De Ligt would undoubtedly be one of the best in Europe and given both players are Dutch, they would have little trouble settling in together.
