Former Nigerian midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju has commended Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr for recalling Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho back into the senior team for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone in Asaba on March 27.
Iheanacho was among the 24-man squad that was released by the German tactician on Wednesday after been left behind from the team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where the team finished third place.
The 23-year-old is now back after his resurgence with the Foxes. Since December 2019, the forward has been a regular for Brendan Rodgers’ side and has scored some important goals.
Reacting to his recall to the Super Eagles, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner said that the former Manchester City star deserved his invitation.
“Truth be told, the recent performance of Kelechi Iheanacho at Leicester City will convince any coach to recall him back to their squad. He has worked hard for it and deserved to be invited for the game against Sierra Leone,” Adepoju told Goalballlive.com.
“It would have been an error if Iheanacho was not invited by Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr.
