Nigeria Super Eagles players made headlines over the weekend based on their performances for their clubs across Europe.

Since the start of the league season, some of these players have been doing their best to help their teams earn valuable points and a good position in their respective league standings.

The likes of Victor Osimhen, Gift Orban, Victor Boniface, Tolu Arokodare, Taiwo Awoniyi and a host of others have made an impact for their clubs week in and week out.

However, one notable Super Eagles player last week failed to turn up for his team; Victor Osimhen couldn't help Napoli avoid a shock 1-2 home defeat to out-of-sorts Lazio, a result that sent shock waves round the football world.

While Osimhen failed to score or make a meaningful impact for his team over the weekend, there are some Super Eagles players who stood tall for their clubs.

Since his move to Bayer Leverkusen this season, Victor Boniface has impressed for the German side. Over the weekend, Boniface netted either side of the half to inspire his team to a 5-1 thrashing of Darmstadt 98.

Aside from his double, the player welcomed another good news as he got invited to play for the Nigerian Super Eagles in the last AFCON qualifying match of the team.

Taiwo Awoniyi

Taiwo Awoniyi continued his impressive start to the Premier League season as Nottingham Forest travelled to Stamford Bridge last Saturday.

Everyone thought Chelsea would roll over the Tricky Trees, but a Taiwo Awoniyi assist to Anthony Elanga three minutes into the second half ensured that Forest snatched all three points to condemn the Blues to their first loss of the league season.

Tolu Arokodare

The towering forward Tolu Arokodare started from the bench for Genk in their home game against Anderlecht last Sunday. Wouter Vrancken's side were put in a worse situation with just 15 minutes into the skirmish following Christopher Baah's sending-off.

Genk remained undeterred and held on until the 71st minute when Anderlecht finally made their one-man advantage count and was coasting to victory until Vranken decided to throw Arokodare into the fray.

The Super Eagle hopeful came on in the 81st minute for Joseph Paintsil with the odds against them and defeat staring right at their faces.

However, a Daniel Munoz delivery seven minutes into added time was guided into the net by a towering header from Tolu Arokodare to seal a memorable 1-1 draw for last season's runners-up, to the delight of fans, his teammates and coach.

Terem Moffi

Moffi was on target for his team Nice last weekend as they battled Strasbourg at home in the Ligue 1.

The Super Eagle scored his team's second goal in the 75th minute that all but ensured the win. He played the entire match with a rating of 8.3 to help Nice achieve their first win of the season.

Unfortunately, Terem Moffi did not make the 23-man squad for the Super Eagles as they look to complete the last AFCON qualifying assignment in September's international window.

23 Super Eagles players have been invited by Nigeria coach, Jose Peseiro. The list was met with satisfaction by Nigerians as Gift Orban who has done enough to earn a call-up finally got what he deserved.

Victor Boniface and Orban's teammate Jordan Torunarigha were two other new invitees to the Eagles camp.

Nigeria will play São Tomé and Príncipe in the last AFCON qualifying match for the Super Eagles, the match will take place in Uyo on 10th September.

The players will be looking to cap off the qualifying series with a comfortable win at home, it will be a game where the newly invited players will have a chance to don the green and white jersey of Nigeria and achieve their dreams of playing for the senior national team.
