The 2023 ValueJet Cup is scheduled to take place from 04 August through 10 August, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, with specially invited top clubs from the NPFL.

According to the Chairman of the ValueJet Cup Organising Committee, Otunba Tade Azeez; eight NPFL clubs will compete in this year's event:

“We have invited eight clubs for the tournament and the communication with the clubs have been positive. The list of the invited clubs includes those that will compete in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup alongside top NPFL clubs”.

Mr Azeez also gave his take on last year's event and the goal of the ValueJet Cup:

“We are looking forward to the second edition of the ValueJet Cup, the maiden edition last year was glamorous. Our objective is to create a competitive tournament for the clubs and help them prepare for the 2023/24 NPFL season and continental tournaments”.

The Chairman also showed gratitude to the sponsor of the event for their support in making Nigerian football grow, and the unwavering support from fans in last year's showpiece:

“We want to appreciate our sponsor ValueJet Airline for contributing to the growth of domestic football in Nigeria. We can't wait to connect with the football community in Ogun State this year, the support we got from the football fans last season was overwhelming”.

The ValueJet Cup is one of Nigeria’s foremost pre-season competitions featuring professional domestic football league clubs

All the four NPFL teams on the continent this year are all expected to storm Ikenne, the home ground of Remo Stars for the second edition of the ValueJet pre-season tournament.

The four clubs in the continent are Enyimba FC (league champions), Remo Stars SC, Rivers United, and Bendel Insurance (Aiteo Cup champions).

The other four teams to make up the eight clubs that are to participate in the 2023 ValueJet Cup will be announced in the coming days.

Sporting Lagos who emerged Champions of the just concluded Super 8 pre-season tournament in Lagos are expected to be one of the invited clubs, as they continue their unprecedented growth and popularity amongst the clubs in Nigeria.

Pre-season tournaments are the best way for local clubs to prepare for the new season, and with the 2023/24 NPFL season billed to begin later in August, competitions like the ValueJet Cup tournament is what Nigerian clubs need to get themselves ready for the new season.

Remo Stars are the defending champions of the ValueJet Cup, they triumphed 3-0 over Smart City in the final of the inaugural edition last year.
