As it Stands in Group C
Senegal is sharing the bottom of the table in their group with Israel. Both teams have a point each. Colombia sits atop the Group C table with six points after their win against Japan (2-1).
Riku Yamane opened the scoring for Japan on the half-hour mark, but Yaser Asprilla and Tomás Ángel led the Colombians to their second victory with goals in the 53rd and 59th, respectively. Therefore, Japan is second with three points gained from their first game win against Senegal.
The African champions will have to win their next group-stage game against Colombia to have a chance of qualifying for the next round of the FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Argentina. The game will be held on May 27.
In the group stage, 16 teams will progress to the single-elimination knockout rounds. In addition to the four best third-place teams, the top two finishers will also advance. This means Senegal has a chance to reach the knockout stage.
