Medeama lifted the Ghana Premier League trophy in Tarkwa on 27 May 2026. Their payroll stayed private. The highest paid player in the Ghana Premier League for 2026/27 cannot be named with certainty. The best public guide is the PFAG, which said top monthly wages reach GH¢18,000 to GH¢21,000.
That figure came from Yussif Chibsah, head of player relations at the players' union, in February 2025. Only one named star has a reported figure: Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.

Why the old top 10 had to go
This page once carried a ranked list of ten players with exact annual salaries. None of those figures was attributed to anyone. We have removed it.
Ghanaian football does not leak wages the way English football does.
Clubs treat contracts as private. Even Chibsah would not go into detail on air. “These salaries I can not mention on radio,” he told Sporty FM, as reported by Modern Ghana on 12 February 2025. What he did offer was a range: the lowest pay he had heard of was GH¢400 a month, and the highest stood between GH¢18,000 and GH¢21,000, with Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko and Medeama “sometimes” coming close to that ceiling.

Asare is the obvious candidate.
Hearts of Oak announced a two-year extension for their captain on 10 April 2025, to 2027. YEN.com.gh reported that the deal more than tripled his monthly wage, from GH¢3,000 to around GH¢10,000. He then kept goal for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, where Graphic Sports noted he became the first locally based goalkeeper to play a full 90 minutes for the Black Stars at the tournament.
Speculation followed. In July 2026 Hearts denied putting any price on him. “Any figures currently circulating are speculative,” the club said.
He stayed. On 13 September he saved a late penalty as Hearts won 2-1 at Bibiani Gold Stars, YEN reported. Any post-World Cup pay rise has not been made public.
Kotoko's figure is older. Obeng Nyarko's words were an estimate rather than a payslip, “I think the highest-paid player takes around $2,000,” and the club did not name the player. We found no later club figure.
A new floor from 2026/27
The firmer number is at the bottom.
On 3 September 2025 the Ghana Football Association announced a minimum net monthly salary of GH¢1,500 for Premier League players, and GH¢700 for the Division One League and the Women's Premier League. New contracts were covered at once. Existing deals fall under it from the start of 2026/27. The rule came with a standard player contract agreed with the PFAG. GFA president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku said the decision reflected “our firm commitment to protecting the welfare of our footballers”.
For context, a Modern Ghana analysis by Samuel Kwame Boadu on 29 May 2026 estimated elite players at Medeama, Hearts and Kotoko on roughly GH¢15,000 to GH¢25,000 a month, and squad players at relegated sides on GH¢1,500 to GH¢2,500. Estimates, not contracts.
Where the bigger money now goes
Clubs, not players, get the headline sums. The GFA set a record GH¢2 million prize for the 2025/26 champions, with GH¢1 million for the runners-up, and Medeama, crowned after a 2-1 win over Basake Holy Stars, were the first to collect it. At the GFA Congress on 20 August 2026, Simeon-Okraku said each of the 18 clubs had received GH¢1 million before 2025/26 through the Adesa Productions deal. Fifteen clubs share GH¢9.5 million in rewards.
The 2026/27 campaign kicked off on the weekend of 4 to 7 September and is due to end on 28 to 31 May 2027. Nations FC and Eleven Wonders went down, Hohoe United withdrew, and Port City, AshantiGold 04 and Debibi United came up.
So the honest answer is still a range. Not a name.
