Despite being the most successful club in Kenya and the team to beat in the Kenyan Premier League this season, Gor Mahia will not feature in the CAF Champions League 2023-24 campaign.

CAF booted the Kenyan League Champions out of the competition over unpaid salaries of former players.

However, despite this glitch in their ambitions, the only club in Kenyan to win a continental trophy will be optimistic about their future.

They will hope to get things right this season and be back on the biggest stage of African club football..

K'Ogalo has a laden trophy cabinet of a record 20 Kenyan Premier League titles and 11 Presidents' Cup (also a record), which should motivate the current squad.

Manager – Johnathan McKinstry

Despite his young age, Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry has vast experience. The resume of the young Irish man is rich, and he comes with the quality that K'Ogalo needs to become a force on the continent again.

He managed the Sierra Leone national team, Rwanda national team, Kauno Žalgiris in the A Lyga, Saif SC of the Bangladesh Football Premier League and the Uganda national football team.

At 27, he became the youngest international manager in the world when managing the national team of Sierra Leone.

McKinstry won the coach of the tournament at the CECAFA Challenge Cup in 2015 and the title with Uganda in 2019 before leading K'Ogalo to the FKF Kenya Premier League last season and the FKF Charity Shield Winners this year.

Star players

Benson Omalla

The 21-year-old was in imperial form last season as the Nairobi city outfit became League champions.

The Kenyan footballer plays as a Striker for K’Ogalo and the Harambee Stars.

Omalla scored 25 league goals last term to finish second-best scorer in the 2022–23 Kenyan Premier League behind Elvis Rupia.

Austine Odhiambo

Austine Odhiambo is another vital cog for Gor Mahia. The 27-year-old forward had a fantastic 2020-21 season, which was good enough to earn him a deal with his favourite club. Odhiambo scored eight league goals for Gor.

Patrick Kaddu

Patrick Kaddu joined the Nairobi side in January 2023 and scored one goal.

On September 2018, the Ugandan international played his first game for the Cranes of Uganda.

Stadium – Nairobi City Stadium

The K’Ogalo play their home games at the multi-purpose Nairobi City Stadium, owned by the Nairobi City Council.

It is fit for football and athletics and is situated east of the city centre.

With a capacity of 15,000 people, the stadium was first called African Stadium, then changed to Donholm Road Stadium.

It had another name change (Jogoo Road Stadium after Kenyan independence in 1963) before arriving at its current name.

Press reports suggest the stadium will receive artificial turf to make it the first in Kenya.

The synthetic turf pitch, Xtreme Turf, is manufactured and installed by ACT Global Sports.

Jersey

Gor Mahia wears an intricately designed green and white shirt designed by Umbro.
