Despite their fortunes this season, it will still be a feisty affair. It is the Soweto derby, and they rarely come more massive than this.

Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates Preview

Kaizer Chiefs

Amakhosi have struggled this term but are in better form in the league than their eternal rivals, Orlando Pirates.

They have been knocked out of all the Cups and seek redemption in the PSL.

They have lost twice to Mamelodi Sundowns this term and would not want to lose another game to Orlando Pirates.

Their poor form this season cost them their coach, Molefi Ntseki. The new manager would want to steady the ship but is already contending with some internal issues.

Kaizer Chiefs are seventh on the log after 11 matches.

Bucs are tenth on the log, but despite winning the MTN8, they would not want to lose to Amakhosi.

They have already lost three PSL games this season, with the league title looking like an impossibility now.

Despite beating Sekhukhune United in their last game, the Carling Knockout Cup loss still rankles, giving the Soweto Derby a more intense colouration.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson has accepted that his side are the favourites in the Soweto Derby.

It puts added pressure on the new manager because Amkhosi has a 100% record against the Bucs in their last five PSL meetings.

The last time Orlando Pirates beat Amakhosi was in January 2021. However, they will take confidence from their 2-1 League Cup win over the Glamour Boys earlier this year.

With the predominant scoreline between these two sides 2-1, expect another feisty Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates match.

Predictions

Prediction 1 – Both sides to score

In their last six league meetings, only on three occasions have both sides failed to score, with the scoreline 1-0 in favour of Kaizer Chefs.

The other results ended 2-1, with Orlando Pirates winning once. As both sides are desperate for a win to further their league cause, it is highly likely for the two teams to end up on the score sheet.

Prediction 2 – Kaizer Chiefs to win

If the results of the last six meetings are anything to go by, then a draw is off the table, which leaves the question of who will win.

Kaizer Chiefs has shown more impetus to win, though they have more losses this term (5) than Orlando Pirates.

Coach Johnson would want to continue the tradition of beating their fierce local rivals.

Prediction 3 – Over 2.5

The two sides should score, and a winner will emerge. It should give the Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates match an entertaining feel.

Kaizer Chiefs to win 2-1.
