Messi Surpasses Ronaldo As Player Who Scored Against The Most UCL Opponents

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has recorded another milestone after scoring in the routine 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

Barcelona sealed top spot in Group F and their progression to the Champions League round of 16 with Messi starring at the Nou Camp – scoring their second while also setting up both Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.

And with his only goal of the game, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner set a record by scoring against his 34th opponent in Europe's top competition.

Messi was level on 33 with fellow iconic rival Cristiano Ronaldo before Wednesday night's action.

Meanwhile, Karim Benzema sits five further back of Messi on 29, while Thomas Muller and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have both scored against 25 different opponents.

Robert Lewandowski, Sergio Aguero, Didier Drogba, Arjen Robben and Samuel Eto'o make up the rest of the top 10.

The Catalan giants showed signs of their best-attacking football against Dortmund, with the front three all getting on the scoresheet.

And they will be desperate to continue from where they left off when they take on Atletico Madrid away in La Liga on Sunday night.

Ernesto Valverde's side currently sit top of La Liga on goal difference ahead of Real Madrid, while Atletico are three points further back in fourth.
