NPFL Fixtures this week: A short preview of all 10 matches
Sunday, 02/06/2024 – 16:00 for all matches
Shooting Stars v Abia Warriors
An in-form Shooting Stars side will welcome Abia Warriors to the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Sunday.
The host will enter this encounter on the back of three matches without defeat (DWW), a run which makes them strong favourites to win.
On the other hand, Abia Warriors will look to make amends after losing to Enyimba at home in their last league game to snap their run of back-to-back wins.
Bendel Insurance v Katsina United
At the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, Bendel Insurance and Katsina United will go head-to-head for all three points in the Nigeria Premier League.
The Benin Arsenal lost the reverse fixture 1-0 and will be eager to register a win against the Changi Boys to extend their home run to three wins in three.
Doma United v Lobi Stars
After slipping into the relegation zone for the first time this season following the 3-1 loss to Kano Pillars last Sunday, Doma United will want to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Lobi Stars at the Pantani Stadium.
The battle for survival has come breathing down the neck of the hosts who have gone six games without a win, with just two draws picked in that stretch.
However, against a Lobi Stars side in their worst shape of the season–four losses and a draw in their last five–the match promises to be a cracker with three points worth its weight in gold for whoever comes out on top.
Gombe United v Sunshine Stars
Sunshine Stars will make the trip to Gombe to take on the Savannah Tigers in the Nigeria Premier League on Sunday.
Both teams are battling for survival, but the visitors are better placed than Gombe United who sit 15 points behind.
Will Edith Agoye's outfit extend their unbeaten run to four games across all competitions?
Enyimba v Rivers United
Rivers United will make a short trip to Aba in a bid to prosecute their league clash against reigning champions Enyimba.
The People's Elephant enter the game in the best shape, having remained unbeaten in their last five matches, with four wins and a draw.
Rivers United, meanwhile, ran out 1-0 victors in their last visit to Enyimba's home turf; they have three wins in their last three games, and will be prepared to deal a blow to the host's chances of cutting down the lead of Rangers on the NPFL table.
Akwa United v Heartland
Buoyed by their recent success against Lobi Stars on the road, Akwa United will be the team to beat when they square off against fellow relegation battlers Heartland at the Next of Champions in Uyo.
The Promise Keepers have three wins in their recent games, a run of two league victories and one in the Federation Cup.
While Heartland are not performing very badly for themselves in recent matches (three wins and two losses), Akwa United knows all three points will greatly boost their chances of survival.
Remo Stars v Kano Pillars
Two teams aiming for a top four finish to the league season will clash in Ikenne when Remo Stars trade tackles with Kano Pillars on Sunday.
The Sky Blue Stars will borrow confidence from their fighting spirit in their last game when they tried to overturn a 3-0 scoreline against Kwara United which ended 3-2.
With an 11-game winning streak at home for Daniel Odumodede's charges proving a nightmare for visiting teams, Sai Masu Gida will have to be at their best to halt such an excellent run from Remo Stars who have their eyes set to win the league.
Niger Tornadoes v Kwara United
An out-of-form Niger Tornadoes will entertain an in-form Kwara United at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna on Sunday.
The visitors are chasing a strong place finish in the NPFL this season, and are yet to taste defeat in their last seven games.
Will a Tornadoes side with one draw and three losses in their last four matches put up a better performance against Kwara United?
Bayelsa United v Plateau United
Plateau United will make a long trip to the South South region when they hit the road to take on Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa.
Both teams are in the opposite half of the table; the hosts in the relegation zone, while the visitors in the top six.
However, neither of these teams have shown good form in recent weeks with no wins in their last two respective games. Which team will reign supreme?
Sporting Lagos v Enugu Rangers
Onikan Stadium in Lagos will come alive when Sporting Lagos hosts league leaders Enugu Rangers in both team’s round 34 NPFL fixture on Sunday evening.
The Noisy Lagosians are aiming to remain in the league in just their first season in the top-flight; they need every available point at home in their remaining games.
Nonetheless, Rangers have set their eyes and ambitions to winning the NPFL title this season. With four points above the chasing pack, and back-to-back losses in their last two games on the road, Fidelis Ikechukwu's charges cannot afford further slip on the road, which makes this game one to look up to come Sunday.
