Olatunji in Samtredia to win trophies

Former Enyimba midfielder Dare Olatunji says he joined Georgian side FC Samtredia to win trophies and advance his career.

Dare Mathew Olatunji was unveiled to the media by the club last week and the 25-year-old made an impressive debut in Samtredia’s season opener against Telavi on Saturday.

Samtredia got their season off to a winning start, beating Telavi 1-0 with Olatunji in action for the full ninety minutes of the game.

“I feel excited coming over to Europe and joining a great club like FC Samtredia after many seasons in my country Nigeria,” said Olatunji to aclsports.

Olatunji played for former African champions Enyimba between 2018 and 2021 before joining Shooting Stars at the start of the 2021/2022 season. The former Osun United star is now looking ahead to his first time in Europe.

“First of all, I’m looking forward to winning trophies with the club then we’ll wait and see what comes afterwards but for now my main focus is on doing well for the club FC Samtredia,” he added.

Samtredia last won the Georgian Erovnili Liga in 2016 and have been looking for a way to bring back the title dominated by Dinamo Tbilisi to the Western part of the country ever since.

Olatunji is expected to be in action once again when his team face the reigning champions Tbilisi in a Match Day 2 encounter at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi.

Olarenwaju scored in Turkey

Striker Kayode Olarenwaju was on the scoresheet as Umraniyespor fought hard to earn a 1-1 draw against Adana Demirspor in their Turkish Super Lig match played on Sunday at the Umraniye Belediyesi Sehir Stadium.

The 29-year-old, who is on loan from the Ukrainian Premier League club Shakhtar Donetsk, scored the equalizer in the 90th minute to secure a point for his side.

Kayode has been impressive for the Istanbul side and has registered one goal and one assist in two league matches.

Umraniyespor have struggled with form and sit bottom of the Turkish Super Lig table with 39 points from 22 matches. The arrival of Kayode could turn the fortunes of the club around.
