This past weekend has been packed with a lot of football and exciting matches at the start of the European calendar with great performances by Super Eagles players individually.
It’s been a good start to the season for Nigerian players in Europe and we will be showing a list of players that have done well this past weekend.
Super Eagles players watch: Osimhen with an opening day brace
The Napoli striker has begun the season the same way he ended the last, in superb goal scoring form. Over the weekend, Napoli began the title defense of their Série A title against Frosinone away from home.
Their opponents took a shock lead early on but Napoli were able to weather the storm and get a great comeback win. Osimhen’s two goals were crucial in completing the comeback and making sure the champions of Italy begin their season strongly.

His brace also took him to the top of the goal-scoring charts among strikers in Europe in this calendar year.
With 19 goals to his name in 2023, he has surpassed the likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland. If he keeps up his scoring run, he could be 2023’s highest goal scorer.
Taiwo Awoniyi continues his brilliant scoring form
The Nottingham Forest man has settled into life in England and is currently in the best form since joining the club last season.
His goal against Sheffield United at the weekend was his second of the season and if you stretch his current form back to last season, he has scored eight goals in six Premier League games.
The likes of Erling Haaland and Marcus Rashford might need to look over their shoulder because the Nigerian is on a rampage.
Akor Adams with another goal
The Nigerian striker market continues to spawn new talent as Akor Adams is the latest to make a name for himself.
With two goals in his Ligue 1 debut last week, he followed it up with another goal for Montpellier in their 4-1 win against Olympique Lyonnais.

The 23-year-old striker would not be known by many Super Eagles fans but he signed for the French side from. Lillestrom where he scored 17 goals in 18 games for them in 2023. He is also a former Nigeria U-20 international with two caps.
Gift Orban makes it six in six
Arguably Nigeria’s biggest young talent out there, Gift Orban’s impressive start to his first full season as a KAA Gent player continues as he scored once again.

His goal for Gent in their 2-2 draw with ST. Truiden was his sixth of the season in six games in all competitions.
The 21-year-old does not look like stopping anytime soon and a big move may be on the cards for him in the near future with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur reportedly looking to secure his services.
Victor Boniface gets his first assist for Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen’s summer acquisition, Victor Boniface capped off a brilliant debut performance for Bayer Leverkusen with an assist in their 3-2 win over RB Leipzig.
The Nigerian striker created the opening goal of the match which was scored by Jeremie Frimpong.
He looked solid throughout the match and was subbed off in the 89th minute – another fine performance by one of the Super Eagles players.
