‘Osimhen is Napoli’s best player so far’

Brazilian pundit, Fabio Montezine, has praised Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for his extraordinary qualities and rates him as Napoli's best player so far this season.

Osimhen has had an explosive start to the 2022/23 season, scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking in Qatar, the 43-year-old and former Napoli player said Osimhen is the only player at the club that has impressed him the most with his influential performances.

“A lot. But the player from Napoli who impresses me the most is Osimhen, Montezine said as reported by Tutton Napoli.

“He’s doing extraordinary things, I didn’t think he could play so well and score so often. I later found out that he is a dragger. So many years after my games in Naples, it’s extraordinary to see the team up there, in the first place, fighting for the Scudetto more than ever.”

Osimhen emerged as the best young player of the year in 2022, winning the glamorous 2022 Globe Soccer Awards on Thursday ahead of Gavi and Valverde.

The 23-year-old's impressive form has helped Napoli to the top the Serie A table with 41 points, and 37 goals in 15 games.

Leao has more class than Osimhen – Capello

Former Real Madrid coach, Fabio Capello, believes AC Milan winger Rafael Leao is class above Victor Osimhen but was quick to add that the Napoli striker is a prolific striker who can still improve.

Osimhen has been in superb form this season for the Partenopei, scoring nine goals and two assists in 11 Serie A games this season.

“Osimhen is young, he can improve,”Capello said during an interview during the Globe Soccer Awards held in Dubai on Thursday.

“(Rafael) Leao has more class, but Osimhen is a centre-forward, one who scores, has the qualities to be a crack.

“I heard rumours here in Dubai, De Laurentiis needs to straighten the antennas. Here I know several… Real Madrid? I don’t do names, not even under torture.”

The Super Eagles striker has been linked with a probable move to England with Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea at the forefront of that.
