Rivers United top goal scorer in CAF Competitions

Rivers United were founded in 2016 after the Rivers state government got permission to merge Dolphins FC and Sharks FC.

The state government ran both clubs and were experiencing financial difficulty at the time.

Since its creation, the Pride of Rivers have been playing in Nigeria's top-flight league, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with one title to their name.

Their first participation in CAF competitions came in 2017 as the team finished second in the 2016 NPFL season to make their debut in the CAF Champions League.

Esosa Igbinoba scored Rivers United's first goal in CAF competitions, as he found the net against Mali's AS Bamako in the 2017 CAF Champions League preliminary round.

After the first leg in Port Harcourt ended 0-0, Stanley Eguma's men travelled to Bamako and recorded an emphatic 4-0 win, with Igbinoba and Bernard Ovoke scoring doubles for Rivers United.

Since then, the Pride of Rivers have made further two appearances in the CAF Champions League, in 2022 and 2023 with their best finish being the second round.

On the other hand, they've also participated in the CAF Confederation Cup on 5 occasions: 2016/17, 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24 with their best finish coming in the 2022/23 season where they got to the quarterfinals.
