Abdul Samed Salis biography

Salis Abdul Samed, born 26 March 2000, is a Ghanaian professional footballer who currently plays for French Ligue 1 club Lens. His place of birth read Accra, Ghana on Wikipedia.

Abdul Samed Salis Club Career

Samad did not play for any of the top-flight teams in Ghana. He played for JMG Academy originally in Accra, before making a 500km voyage to the academy in Djékanou, Ivory Coast, after the Accra academy closed at just 18 years.

JMG is a training centre set up by former France international Jean-Marc Guillou – hence the self-titled acronym. Academies such as JMG serve as channels for African talents to get a career for themselves in elite leagues in Europe. 

Breakthrough came for Abdul Samed Salis in July 2019, as he joined Clermont on a two-year loan deal from the JMG Academy. He went on to make his debut with the club in a 2–2 (5–4 on penalties) Coupe de la Ligue loss to Lens just a month later. 

The midfielder played a crucial part in Clermont’s promotion into the Ligue 1 after finishing second in the 2019–20 Ligue 2. Having excelled in his loan spell, Abdul Samed made his move to Clermont permanent and signed a four-year contract.

On 24 June 2022, Abdul Samed signed for established Ligue 1 side Lens in a transfer deal worth a reported €5 million. He signed a five-year contract with the club and Samed finished the campaign with an impressive 33 Ligue 1 appearances. 

At the end of his debut season with Les Sang et Or, Samed was nominated for the Prix Marc-Vivien Foé which was won by Chancel Mbemba. His side also made it to the Champions League for just the third time in their history. 

Just in June 2023, Samed extended his contract with Lens by an extra year, with his current contract now set to expire in 2028.

Abdul Samed Salis International Career

Samed never featured in any competitive game for the Ghana National Team until the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Meanwhile, he made his debut against Switzerland in a pre-tournament friendly, starting and playing the full 90 minutes as Ghana won 2–0. 

At the tournament proper, Samed featured in all three group games for the Black Stars as they failed to make it out of the group.
