Victor Osimhen Handed Grand Gesture After Napoli’s Serie A Triumph
Victor Osimhen gets his own mural in Naples

Following a great season which has seen him lead Napoli to their third ever Serie A title and their first in 33 long, hard years, Victor Osimhen has been honoured by the city of Naples.

More specifically, he was honoured by famed Italian street artist PetrarcaeMagliano ART, also known as PEM Art.

Osimhen now has a brilliantly painted mural of himself to immortalize his achievements in a foreign country which will be there for years to come after his incredible achievements for Napoli.

The mural, painted in Castel Volturno, took weeks to paint in a location that is fully Partenopei.

Osimhen and Napoli: A true football love story

After signing for €72 million (plus add-ons) and becoming Africa's most expensive player, many wondered if Aurelio De Laurentiis, known for his incredible cost cutting ways, had made a vanity buy.

Osimhen, who was just turning 22 at the time, had only played one season in the UEFA Champions League and one season in Europe's top five leagues. He may have debuted in the German Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg, but he had a forgettable time at the club.

Still, that was not enough for anybody to splash that much on the AFCON qualifiers 2023 top scorer.

The injuries and the struggles that followed made some in the Italian media and a few in the Nigerian football news media question the signing. However, the signs he showed to recover from every set back and get double digit goals in the league was evidence of his incredible potential.

The fans had began to fall in love with him, just as they did with Diego Armando Maradona, after who their stadium is named.

The Nigeria Super Eagles ace has now blossomed into one of the world's best strikers thanks to the love and support the Napoli faithful have shown him.

He is their own and even though he is not Maradona, he will be remembered forever for what he did in the 2022/23 season.

Osimhen transfer: Should the striker leave Napoli?

The exploits of Victor Osimhen have not gone unnoticed by the big clubs in Europe.

He is on a number of transfer lists with reports claiming in the past week that he is the subject of an internal rift between the members of the Paris Saint-Germain board.

Two Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea are also in the hunt for the Nigeria national football team ace.

De Laurentiis was reported to have gone back on his stance to sell Osimhen for a figure above €120 million following his goal that brought the Scudetto back to Naples. This will not stop the interested clubs in making a move for the striker.

His personal sentiments could also get involved as he has not hidden his desire to play in the Premier League.

Given the love he is receiving in Naples, however, it may be in his best interest to remain at the club for one more season and attempt to solidify his legend status at the club.

Not many Super Eagles players – or African players – get to experience the kind of love that he is being shown at the moment. The Premier League can wait, especially if he shows that he can maintain this form at the top level.

The summer transfer window may bring a different story, but one more season in Naples will do Osimhen a world of good.
