“Why I turned down Barcelona’s number 10 shirt” – Aguero

Sergio Aguero has expressed his reasons for turning down Barcelona's number 10 jersey after the exit of Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Manchester City striker was on a Spanish streaming network last week in which he was asked why he refused to take over the legendary kit number – especially from his friend and national teammate, Messi.

Aguero said, “It wasn't that I didn't want to, but it was out of respect for Messi.”

For the records, Aguero was the name on the lips of everyone to take be the next number 10 shortly after the departure of Messi Barca was announced.

The 33-year old Argentine was Manchester City's number 10 for more than six years and he broke records and set new ones in the Premier League to become the Cityzens' all-time great.

Nevertheless, his decision to honour his close friend by not taking his kit left the Catalans with few options.

In the end, it was young Ansu Fati who took up the responsibility, and it couldn't have ended in a better way
