Former Wolfsburg striker, Jonathan Akpoborie has applauded the inclusion of Cyriel Dessers by Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr in the 24-man squad that will face Sierra Leone in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Asaba on March 27.
Dessers, who has scored 15 goals in 25 appearances for his club this season, is born to a Belgian father and Nigerian Mother but recently switched his international allegiance to Nigeria.
Reacting to this development, Akpoborie stated that Dessers hunger and determination to represent the senior national team paved way for his invitation.
He said that Desser's would add more competition in the Super Eagles attack that already had in form Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho.
“The invitation of Cyril Dessers to the Super Eagles didn't come as a surprise to me because he has shown the hunger and determination to play for Nigeria,” Akpoborie told Goalballllive.com.
“Besides, looking at his form in the Eredivisie for Heracles Almelo this ongoing season, simply tells you that he's currently in good form.
