Why Ghana Broadcasting Corporation will not telecast the Ghana Premier League
With the Ghana Premier League 2023/24 season set to kick-start on 15 September, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) won't be telecasting live actions from the league.
Ghanaians have been asking why the GBC will not broadcast live Ghana Premier League matches on any of its channels. Here is why!
The Director General of GBC Professor Amin Alhassan explained in an interview that the State Broadcaster submitted a bid when the Ghana Football Association GFA advertised for telecasters, but the GFA awarded the bid to Chinese franchise, StarTimes.
The GBC was denied the rights to televise Ghana Premier League matches despite the fact that GBC submitted the highest bid, said Professor Alhassan.
The director added that the GBC is however ready to broadcast Ghana Premier League matches for profit or not, but the corporation was denied the rights to do so.
Professor Alhassan asserts that the GBC has the strongest sports personnel and production in the country, with the greatest capacity and reach across all sixteen regions of Ghana.
He expressed his disappointment at the Ghana Football Association's decision to deny the State Broadcaster the rights to televise all Ghana Premier League matches across the country.
