The round of 6 of the 2023/24 season of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) was full of intrigue and drama, as there were goals to cheer.

It's not like there was nothing to cheer on last week, but match day six of the Ghana Premier League witnessed a marginal increase in goals scored.

Last week there were 14 goals from seven matches, an average of two goals per match. There were two goalless draws, with six teams failing to find the mark.

The GPL, known for its excitement and unpredictability, has once again lived up to its reputation, promising a season filled with extraordinary moments and fierce competition for the coveted title of top goal scorer.

Ghana Premier League first-round scorers

These seven individuals displayed their prowess in finding the back of the net, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating season.

The names that graced the scoresheet in the first round were: Amankonah, Antwi, Ayeh, Manaf, Bonsu, Ephson, and Owusu.

Stephen Amankonah (Berekum Chelsea)

Age: 23 

The young and talented Stephen Amankonah stood out as one of the standout performers this season so far.

The 23-year-old was a force to be reckoned with when Berekum Chelsea hosted Bibiani Gold Stars.

Amankonah showcased his goal-scoring ability by finding the back of the net not once, but twice in a thrilling encounter.

  • First Goal: Amankonah opened the scoring for Berekum Chelsea with a well-taken penalty in the 74th minute. His composure from the spot demonstrated his maturity beyond his years.
  • Second Goal: Not content with just one, Amankonah sealed his brace in the 94th minute, doubling Berekum Chelsea's lead and securing a 2-0 victory for his team.

His remarkable performance in the opening round of the Ghana Premier League season made him an instant standout, and he will undoubtedly be a player to watch as the season progresses.

Stephen Amankona continued his goal-scoring form for Berekum Chelsea. He scored from the penalty spot in their 1-3 away loss to Karela United.

The goal came in the 78th minute, but turned out to be a consolation goal.

Frank Antwi:

Age: 19 

Another young sensation making waves in the Ghana Premier League is Frank Antwi.

The 19-year-old midfielder showcased his incredible goal-scoring ability when he donned the Legon Cities jersey in a closely contested match against Karela.

  • First Goal: Antwi's first goal came in the 61st minute, breaking the deadlock and giving Legon Cities the lead. His precise finish exhibited his technical skill and coolness in front of goal.
  • Second Goal: Antwi was not done yet. He added to his tally in the 69th minute, securing a brace and ultimately sealing the victory for Legon Cities with a 2-1 win.

After the 2-1 loss to Legon Cities FC, the club returned to winning ways on Matchday two of the Betpawa Ghana Premier League.

The Ellembele District club beat Berekum Chelsea 3-1 to pick their first points of the season.

The victory was spearheaded by the 26-year-old forward Evans Adomako, who scored a brace.

Adomako scored his first goal in the 22nd minute, while the second came in the second half.

Furthermore, he scored another goal in a 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko

Big moves on the chart

No player scored a hat trick this week, but Isaac Mintah hit a brace, as Aduana beat Great Olympics 3-1. The two goals catapult him to the top of the top scorers chart with four goals.

Evans Adomako (Karela) remains with four goals as his side fired blanks in their 0-0 draw with Bofoakwa Tano.

Manaf Umar can't stop scoring. He scored the opening goal in Nsoatreman's 2-0 win over Legon Cities.

Amidou Diarra (Nations FC) also scored a brace to give his side a share of the spoils in the 2-2 draw with Asante Kotoko.
