Gor Mahia has made a strong statement in their third game of the 2023-24 season after a 4-1 victory over City Stars.

The 5-goal thriller earned Kogalo another huge milestone in their quest for another Kenya Premier League trophy.

Gor Mahia currently hold a record 20 Kenya Premier League titles.

It is the second home game of the season, which could be a game-changer from now on for the reigning champions.

After the massive victory on Sunday afternoon, Kogalo moved to the second spot on the Kenya Premier League table.

Gor Mahia are now at 7 points par with Posta Rangers who are topping the rankings.

Both teams have scored 6 goals, the highest in the current state of affairs.

A decisive first-half win fueled Kogalo's winning momentum

For Gor Mahia, this was a must-win. In our preview of Gor Mahia vs City Stars, we fancied the KPL reigning champions to keep their dominance over City Stars.

An early opener in the 10th minute by Benson Omalla kicked off a fancied outcome for Gor Mahia against City Stars.

Nineteen minutes later, Omalla added a second. The brace doubled the lead for Gor Mahia who were already threatening from all attacking fronts.

Shortly before the break, Gor Mahia's Rogers Mugisha tripled the lead with a cool finish in the 45th minute.

Gor Mahia's victory on Sunday afternoon is a replica of the last result when the two teams faced off in the final game of the 2022-23 season.

Kogalo won 1-4 away from home against Nairobi City Stars in the final stretch of last season.

While City Stars came back for the second half more determined for a gruelling city derby, pulling one back in the 66th minute, that was how far they could go.

Austin Odhiambo added the fourth goal for Kogalo 4 minutes later to seal a massive home victory for the KPL champions.

The dominant performance by Gor Mahia in both halves means they are once again angling for an early lead in the rankings.

Most importantly, Benson Omalla has bagged three goals in 3 games, making him the leading scorer in the 2023/24 Kenya Premier League.

Kogalo's Rogers Mugisha has now scored two goals in three games, so we can expect a competitive battle for the golden boot between the duo who have shown great promise in the 2023/24 KPL season.

When is the next Gor Mahia game?

After the massive victory on Sunday, Kogalo will now focus on their next game on the 24th of September when they play away from home against Kakamega Homeboyz.

A clash with Homeboyz is expected to be another easy win for the reigning champions, given that they have won it 11 times and lost 4 times in 18 meetings.

Most importantly, another victory would mean Gor continues their quest for another title to further dominate the Kenya Premier League as they have in the past.

Moreover, Kogalo are working to meet CAF requirements to avoid another Champions League ban should they qualify for the continental tournament at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
