Gor Mahia's victory on Sunday afternoon is a replica of the last result when the two teams faced off in the final game of the 2022-23 season.
Kogalo won 1-4 away from home against Nairobi City Stars in the final stretch of last season.
Benson Omalla's brace stirred things for Kogalo in a dominant performance
While City Stars came back for the second half more determined for a gruelling city derby, pulling one back in the 66th minute, that was how far they could go.
Austin Odhiambo added the fourth goal for Kogalo 4 minutes later to seal a massive home victory for the KPL champions.
The dominant performance by Gor Mahia in both halves means they are once again angling for an early lead in the rankings.
Most importantly, Benson Omalla has bagged three goals in 3 games, making him the leading scorer in the 2023/24 Kenya Premier League.
Kogalo's Rogers Mugisha has now scored two goals in three games, so we can expect a competitive battle for the golden boot between the duo who have shown great promise in the 2023/24 KPL season.
When is the next Gor Mahia game?
After the massive victory on Sunday, Kogalo will now focus on their next game on the 24th of September when they play away from home against Kakamega Homeboyz.
A clash with Homeboyz is expected to be another easy win for the reigning champions, given that they have won it 11 times and lost 4 times in 18 meetings.
Most importantly, another victory would mean Gor continues their quest for another title to further dominate the Kenya Premier League as they have in the past.
Moreover, Kogalo are working to meet CAF requirements to avoid another Champions League ban should they qualify for the continental tournament at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
