Lampard Names Who Is Eighth Summer Signing Will Be After £90m Kai Havertz Transfer

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen to bring in one more top-level player since a £90million deal for Kai Havertz is over the line.

The Blues have completed the signing of Havertz, following weeks of negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen.

Chelsea will pay an initial club record fee of £72m for the 21-year-old midfielder in a deal that has taken their summer spending beyond £200m.

Havertz met up with the Germany squad in Stuttgart on Monday and his move to Stamford Bridge is already in completion.

He has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract and, now that the deal is finalised, he’ has become Frank Lampard’s seventh summer signing.

They have already signed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva, as well as signing Malang Sarr and bringing in teenager Xavier Mbuyamba from Barcelona.

Now Lampard will focus his attention on Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The Chelsea boss lost faith in Kepa Arrizabalaga last term and his keen to bring in another option between the sticks.

Lampard’s side have had an opening bid of around £14m rejected but are expected to return with a second bid.

The 28-year-old will become Chelsea's eighth summer signing if Lampard can strike a deal.
