Liverpool are looking for a new centre-back with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez sidelined with long-term injuries.
And while Ben Davies is primed to arrive from Preston, the Reds could make a second signing.
Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car was ready to get on a private plan with his girlfriend from Marignane airport to Manchester, only for the Ligue 1 giants to halt negotiations amid their desire to sign a replacement.
Since then, it’s emerged that the Reds are closing in on the signing of Davies from Preston in a £2million deal.
But, despite that, the Daily Mail say Jurgen Klopp would like to see the Frenchman arrive and is hoping a deal can still be salvaged late in the day.
Caleta-Car reportedly ticked their boxes as a towering centre-back who is right-footed but can play on the left-side of defence.
And whether the Anfield outfit are able to resurrect the potential signing of the 24-year-old, with the clock starting to tick down, remains to be seen.
