But, despite that, the Daily Mail say Jurgen Klopp would like to see the Frenchman arrive and is hoping a deal can still be salvaged late in the day.
Caleta-Car reportedly ticked their boxes as a towering centre-back who is right-footed but can play on the left-side of defence.
And whether the Anfield outfit are able to resurrect the potential signing of the 24-year-old, with the clock starting to tick down, remains to be seen.
